With the work visa SWAP obtains for you, you will be legally entitled to work anywhere in Canada.* So once you're able to legally work in Canada, what kind of job are you going to look for and how are you going to find it? That's where SWAP steps in!
At each of our three Hosting Centres (located in Vancouver, Toronto and Montréal), there are numerous resources available exclusively to SWAP participants. Resources such as job postings boards, job banks of companies that have hired participants in past years, placement agency contacts, local newspapers and Internet computers. Friendly and knowledgeable staff are also on hand to assist in your job search.
Eighty-five per cent of participants locate employment within the first two weeks upon arriving in Canada** Although you can work in any city in Canada, most participants find themselves living and working in areas with a strong economy such as in Ontario (Toronto), Alberta (resorts in the Canadian Rockies and Calgary), British Columbia (Vancouver, Whistler and Victoria), and Montréal (French speakers only).
From helping you with your resume and cover letter to pointing you in the direction of companies and the geographical areas that are hiring, SWAP provides its participants with job search support. And no matter what job (or jobs) you decide to get, you'll return home with international work experience added on to your resume - a surefire way to impress your future US employer!
Note: Some restrictions apply to the type of employment you can obtain. Please visit the FAQ section of this website to find out more about the types of jobs you cannot obtain while on the Work Canada program..
*Searching for work during off-peak seasons can take slightly longer so be prepared to come to Canada with sufficient funds to sustain you during your job search (the minimum recommended amount is $700 USD).
