FAQ health

Do any programs require special medical exams? Some swap programs may require a medical examination or chest x-ray.

Due to visa rules for both the SWAP Australia and SWAP New Zealand working holiday visas, some participants may have to have a chest x-ray performed. This is required most often if a participant has spent 3 months or more of the past 5 years in a country deemed as high risk for tuberculosis. More conditions may apply for SWAP Australia.

A thorough medical exam will be required for SWAP teach in China. This exam is a requirement of the Government of China in order to offer you a teaching placement and needs to be completed in order to process your visa. Swap will provide you with full instructions and forms in your Welcome Kit.

Requirements and conditions of exams differ for each country, so please don't undertake to have one done until you have been advised by SWAP. Further information on medical exams and chest x-rays, will be found in the SWAP kit information provided to you on registration. For any questions regarding chest x-rays and medical exams, or to find out which countries are deemed high-risk, please contact your Travel CUTS office.
