Work in Austria

Live in one of the most beautiful countries in Europe

Whether you're attracted by the mountain villages nestled in the Alps or the classical beauty of Vienna, Austria has it all! And its central location is perfect for exploring the rest of Europe!

Austria offers the finest skiing, snowboarding, and resorts

Famous for challenging runs, fantastic snow conditions, and plenty of après ski fun, spend time exploring the world-class ski resorts and the lively nightlife high up in the Austrian Alps!

Live in the City of Music

Live among the greats! Mozart, Strauss, Beethoven - just some of the composers that called Austria home. Or go ahead and re-create scenes from The Sound of Music (we've always secretly wanted to).

SWAP Austria since 2002

SWAP Working Holidays has been sending Canadians to Austria since 2002! That's around the same time the Austrian schilling was replaced by the Euro, so quite some time ago!

SWAP Work in Austria

  • Live and work in the heart of Europe! With its central location and the abundance of budget airlines connecting Austria to every corner of Europe for pretty much the price of a short-distance bus ride in North America, no destination is out of reach! So not only do you get to live and work in beautiful Austria, but you get to travel in between! Getting paid in Euros will make travels anywhere convenient and effortless. And when else will it be possible to day-trip to Venice just because you have a risotto craving?

Austria in itself is a country full of contrasts - perfect for nature-lovers and city-dwellers alike! In Austria, you can find yourself swimming in a lake deep in the Alps, followed by a cold beer and schnitzel at an alpine pub, or admiring architectural achievements and tasting your way through the traditional coffeehouses of one of the world's most liveable cities, Vienna. Austria is home to Europe's most prominent mountain range, the Alps, that delights in both summer and winter activities, with some of the best hiking and skiing in the world! Known as the Capital of Classical Music, Austria is associated with musical masterminds - Mozart, Strauss and Beethoven, a beloved opera, and yes, even an opera toilet (a street toilet with world-class interiors, décor and music... it doesn't get any more Viennese than this!).

If you've always wanted to improve your German, live in culturally- and historically-rich cities, eat delicious (and we mean delicious) pastries, conquer the Alps, or work in a country that still holds 19th-century balls in palaces, Austria is your adventure of a lifetime! With SWAP's help, your paperwork will be taken care of and so will you - every step of the way! From helping you find a job, accommodation, setting up your phone and bank account, SWAP is there during your entire journey. So waltz your way over to Austria: it's the place to literally make your dreams come true (according to Viennese psychoanalyst Sigmund Freud, anyway).

  • Eligibility

For SWAP Work in Austria it is required that you are proficient in German. In order for our partners in Austria to be able to assist you, you will need to be confident that you can attend a job interview held completely in German. Without this level of language, we do not recommend you choose this program.

Please apply for SWAP Austria at least 6 weeks prior to departure. The Austrian Embassy now requires ALL applicants to attend a biometrics appointment IN PERSON at its Ottawa location (no other Consulates offer biometric appointments). Appointment availability is limited and wait times can be long. Before registering, please ensure you are able to travel to Ottawa, Ontario to have your biometrics completed. We can assist you in arranging an appointment. We do not recommend booking your travel (i.e. flights) until your appointment has been scheduled.
